Welcome to Club Millennium, where you’re about to have the night of your life, along with being told a true story of power, corruption, betrayal, and (most importantly) revolution! In short, welcome to “Here Lies Love”: the most surreal yet trailblazing experience you’ll ever witness on Broadway! You’ll have an awesome time no matter where you’re located, but when you’re on the dance floor, you’re truly a part of the revolution. David Byrne, Fatboy Slim, and Alex Timbers have knocked Broadway’s socks off with not only an infectious-to-groove-to disco score and the most unique staging to be offered in years, but with a strong, exceedingly relatable, and all too timely story of restrained democracy and community uniting to battle oppressors. It’s ingenious how a story my own dad had heard and witnessed via the media of the 20th century bleeds so well into this century’s mainstream, and has given a pathway for my generation to learn the history of two figures I never knew and a country to I always knew was with us but never was taught much on its past until tonight. With a strong, all-Filipino cast led by a powerful-yet-equally-emotional Jaygee Macapugay (my Imelda for the night), a suave commanding Jose Llana, and a bold revolutionary in Conrad Ricamora, you’re in the best of hands throughout this 90-minute thrill of a Broadway musical! I can’t stress this enough; go see “Here Lies Love,” and get ready for the biggest, most awesomest mind flip of your life!
